Pip and The Pumpkin Moon
Pip is a ghost crab. Not a ghost. A crab.
On the one night each October when the Pumpkin Moon comes up out of the sea, Pip leaves his hole at the top of Juno Beach to go and see it. But the beach is dark, dark, dark — the wind in the palms, two coconuts knocking, something enormous breathing in the surf. Each time, Pip says the brave words: I’m not afraid. I’m not alone. Then the sand begins to boil, and a hundred baby loggerheads climb up into the night asking which way the sea is.
A short, scripture-based Halloween special for little ones: six sounds to shout, one brave thing to say together, and a lighthouse to blink with — closing with a single verse, Isaiah 41:10. For the grown-up, a four-page reader’s guide with the verses behind each turn of the story, plus a page of real Juno Beach science on ghost crabs, loggerhead hatchlings and the Jupiter Inlet Light. From the author of Fables of the Golden Shore.
“I’m not afraid. I’m not alone.”
Best for: ages 3 to 8, classroom and library read-alouds, Halloween nights, and anyone who reads to them.
